2021 Deborah & Mary Kay conversation

2021 Deborah & Mary Kay conversation

Deborah Marks and Mary Kay Wright engage in a broad conversation about their many years of participation with Rosen Method. They discuss the unfolding development of the Rosen community through time, and how it has evolved. Using the process of discovery and personal growth that occurs through giving and receiving Rosen Method bodywork sessions over time, and/or immersing in the unfoldment that occurs with regular Rosen Method movement, they share how the community has also passed through many stages of change over more than 40 years. The evolutionary process has included human dynamics such as bonding, rejection, competition, generosity, dedication, creative expression, struggles with unconscious material, family systems patterns, fear, joy, honesty and dishonesty, willingness to serve, nationalism, financial struggles, resilience, and vision. As the community has lived through change and growth, which has included conflict and cooperation, there seems to be more flow, more collaboration and integration, and a broader shared mission to engage in and serve human health and wellness locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. About Mary Kay Wright: Mary Kay was raised in New Mexico and Colorado and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1977 to pursue graduate studies at John F. Kennedy University. She met Marion Rosen in 1979 when Marion began teaching a weekly elective class at JFKU and joined Marion's first bodywork training group in 1980, followed by Marion's first teacher training in 1982. As a founding member of the Rosen Institute, she was involved with building the business and governance structures for Rosen Method for 35 years, founded the Russian training center, and created the Global Congresses for international gatherings of the Rosen community. Mary Kay produced a documentary series on the life and work of Marion partially released in a series of DVDs. She currently teaches in the Austrian center and hosts a bimonthly coaching group for interns and practitioners sponsored by the UK Rosen center. Her primary profession for the past 22 years is working as a private wealth advisor and financial life-planning specialist. About Deborah Marks: Deborah Marks met Mary Kay in 1983, at a Bay Area somatics conference at John F. Kennedy University, which Mary Kay organized that included presentations by Marion Rosen, Sara Webb, and Louise Barrie. She started her Rosen Method training a few months later. As a participant of the third training class Marion taught, Deborah was also a founding member of the very first RMPA. She is a senior bodywork teacher and has taught in several schools abroad, most especially in Russia (since 1993) and in Austria (since 2015). Deborah has been teaching Rosen Movement classes since 1986 and is now a trainer of movement teachers. Her wide-ranging studies over the decades have included ballet, modern, and ethnic dance, aikido, tai chi, Da Yan Qigong, Eutony and Living Anatomy, and Peter Levine's Somatic Experiencing.

2023 Meg Butler & Kato Wittich

An open-hearted discussion led by Meg Butler with Kato Wittich In this discussion, Meg and Kato explore: ~ How we as Rosen practitioners meet the needs of clients, such as people of color or trans people, for whom the world is a dangerous place and who are therefore continually subjected to new traumas.  ~ Is safety possible for anyone in this time when even the most privileged live with the trauma of a disintegrating ecology and the constant menace of violence and instability in our political realities?  ~ What can we learn from advocates of social justice who work with trauma and somatic practices and have a long history of adapting somatic work to the needs of communities at risk?   ~ How does Rosen Method become a practice that is fully inclusive, diverse, intersectional and skillful at supporting the fullest possible life for all humans, not just those who are privileged? Meg and Kato open the discussion with a sharing of what matters to each of them around these issues, they share about how they each work with these issues in their actual practices, and where they feel support and training may be needed. About Meg Butler: Meg Butler has been helping clients find their own path to wellbeing by exploring the connection between their habitual tension and their inner landscape since beginning her internship in 1998.
